Nice post Michael. These small government Republicans are nothing more than hypocrites. They want a small government when it comes to things that they do not like the federal government doing, and they are in favor of more federal government involvement when it suits their interests.
Garrett had no problem voting to give the federal government expanded authority to conduct surveillance on Americans, he had no problem with the Patriot Act, he had no problem with the Defense of Marriage Act (another truly Orwellian name for a federal law that prevents a class of people from having their marriages recognized), he had no problem with the US Congress spending taxpayer money to announce its support for the importance of Christmas and Christians, and he has no problem authorizing the federal government to spend ungodly amounts of money fighting the useless and wasteful Drug War.
He just doesn’t want the federal government involved with unimportant things like regulating the weapons of mass destruction that are the finance industry, the energy industry, or the gun industry. Congress should instead stick to the important issues like the War on Christmas.
Hopefully this will be the election cycle when Garrett’s constituents wake up and realize that if you elect people who hate government and think it is useless and ineffective, then you end up with a government that is useless, ineffective, and hated by its citizens. We need a congressman (or even better, a congresswoman), who understands that government serves an important purpose and can be incredibly effective in areas and issues where private interests will not act in the interests of the country.
It’s time to Retire Garrett so he can continue spreading Freedom as a lobbyist for the financial industry or the gun industry. Count me in. Let me know what I can do to help.
